It’s Earth Day this Sunday. Looking back on the first Earth Day, in 1970, here are some of the books that sparked the movement and interest in environmental issues of the time. Many of those ideas are still relevant today.

Rachel Carsons Silent Spring is the book that launched the American environmental movement. Paul R. Ehrlich’s seminal book poses the question, “Population Control or Race to Oblivion?” right on the cover. But even the iconic children book The Lorax from Dr. Suess is commonly recognized as a fabled depiction of the plight of the environment resulting from actions of large corporations. We have a few more. Check out the list of must-reads from the 70's courtesy of earth911 HERE.
