Brought to you by Shores of Astor, “Music for the Masses” is the first benefit show for Ethos, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing music education to underserved communities. Local Portland bands Trashcan Joe, Fever and Shores of Astor will join together to create an evening of music with a soundscape of Americana, early Jazz, progressive indie folk-rock and haunting, sultry blues ballads with a touch of cabaret.
One of the many highlights of this benefit show is an instrument drive. Bring your gently used instruments to the show. They’ll be donated straight to Ethos for music lessons.
100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to Ethos. Ethos’ mission is that every child has a right to learn and make music. As a non-profit, music education is available on a sliding scale so that any child can participate.
Trashcan Joe, among other featured bands, has had a long-standing relationship with Portland. This steadily working band has performed at events such as Pickathon, OPB’s Live Wire, the NW Folklife Festival and Burning Man. Don Campbell of The Oregonian wrote, “Trashcan Joe is a marvel, a wonder that defies categorization in any sort of contemporary setting.” Shores of Astor is a newly formed band of multi-instrumentalists with a sound that encompasses the heart of the Pacific Northwest. Often described as progressive folk-rock with a touch of Blues and Americana, Shores of Astor is a feast for the senses. Fever is described by Outsider Music: “This Portland quartet plays a sultry rock-noir that makes me want to sip a glass of red wine amidst barren stone walls, slowly swaying with the smoke.”
Definitely a night of music not to be missed!
