Harry Potter Review!

I was lucky enough to go to the screening of the new Harry Potter movie last night. I like the movies and what not, but I've never read the books. My girlfriend is a different story. She breathes Potter. That being said, I thought it would be better to have her write a review. So here it is:
My first reaction after watching "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" is to say: I can't believe it's over. It's definitely an enjoyable movie that should please fans, but more than anything, it represents the end of an era that has allowed children and adults to believe in magic.
"Deathly Hallows: Part 2" picks up where the last movie left off with Harry, Ron and Hermione searching for the final horcruxes in order to destroy them and, ultimately, kill Voldemort. After this task leads them to Gringotts, they are joined by many of our other favorite witches and wizards at Hogwarts, where most of the film occurs in an epic, spell-filled battle.
This installment is definitely dark, both in picture and in theme. Not only does most of the film take place at night, but the mood is heavy and along with action and violence, it addresses very adult themes. One scene shows a flashback to the first film, when Harry dons the Sorting Hat, and reminds you of just how long it's been since that film (10 years!!!), how much the actors have grown up, and how the story line has developed. Some of the only comic relief in this movie is (again) provided by Ron Weasley: when the camera pans to him in a serious moment, you just know he's going to pull out a joke.
Sometimes it seems like movies are just done in 3D to create hype, so I was a bit skeptical about this, but I felt like the 3D actually enhanced the experience. Also, the 3D glasses are shaped like Harry's signature round pair so that you can go home and draw a lightning bolt on your forehead with eyeliner and pretend like you're a wizard . . . which I wouldn't know from experience or anything.
Major Harry Potter fans like me will, of course, find some faults with the movie: some favorite scenes are inevitably left out, as they couldn't possibly fit all of those plot points and characters into a few hours (though this movie flies by and is just a bit over 2 hours). But overall, considering how challenging it must be to condense the incredible detail of the books into film, I think the makers of this movie did a fantastic job.
