It’s a Wednesday, and as long as Justin Bieber is really, really okay after crashing his Ferrari we can move on to Rock Notes.
Are you ready to rumble?
Kid Rock, Maroon 5 and Lady Antebellum are set to help the NFL kick off the new season next week. The league announced Tuesday that the three acts have been booked to perform at the pregame concert before the Green Bay Packers' game on Thursday, September 8th. They'll be taking the stage adjacent to Lambeau Field, where the current Super Bowl champs will face off against the New Orleans Saints. The concert is just one part of the kickoff festivities NFL executive Lawrence Randall says will give Green Bay its "moment in the national spotlight."
The week leading up to the game will also feature youth clinics, a Gameday Village and a salute to each team featuring 32 NFL legends. Tickets for the concert are free, and the show is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. It will also air on NBC's pregame show and on the NFL Network. More details about the "NFL Kickoff 2011" celebration are expected to be announced soon.
It’s a fight as brutal as TugBoat Sheila fighting with Raindance Maggie over Flea. The Red Hot Chili Pepper's will have to settle for second place on the Billboard album chart next week. Insiders expect the band's tenth studio release to sell somewhere between 175 and 200-thousand copies in its first week out, but that still puts it well behind Lil Wayne. The Peppers got the first in their almost three-decade-long career with "Stadium Arcadium" in 2006. The double-album sold 442-thousand copies in its first week out.
Warning to women: This one isn’t fit for a conservative office!
The Foo Fighters are cleaning themselves up for their upcoming North American Tour. In a preview for the trek posted on the band's website, Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett pose as long-haired truckers stopping at a roadside truck stop for a quick shower. Guitarist Pat Smear makes a cameo as the unfortunate janitor who walks in on the guys' session. And they don't leave much to the imagination in the clip, adding a few ahem shots of their rear ends and some suggestive soap dropping. Once they're finished washing up, the guys hop in a couple of 18-wheelers and hit the road. The Foo Fighters' tour is set to kick off September 14th in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Fans can check out the tour trailer, "Now Serving Hot Buns." The clip comes just a few days after the band's "Walk" video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video.
Lady Gaga ripping off Annie Lennox?
Lady Gaga has once again found herself on the wrong side of a rip-off accusation. According to E! News, Kelly Osbourne and other MTV Video Music Award viewers are pointing out the similarities between Gaga's Jo Calderone performance and Annie Lennox's gender-bending act in the '80s. After Gaga's performance, Osbourne tweeted a link to a video from the Eurythmics' performance at the 1984 Grammys. Lennox took the stage back then in her best Elvis getup, complete with slicked back black hair and sideburns, much like the Calderone character. Osbourne says she's still a fan of Gaga, she just wishes she'd "start giving credit where credit is due."
The Mother Monster has recently faced other accusations of taking a little too much inspiration from a few pop icons. Many critics noted the similarities between her hit "Born This Way" and Madonna's "Express Yourself," and earlier this summer Bette Midler accused Gaga of stealing her wheelchair bound mermaid character during a live show in Australia.
