Rae’s Lakeview Lounge is a brand-new, old-school lounge in the center of the Montgomery Park neighborhood at the top of downtown Portland’s Northwest District. It’s a classic, metropolitan bar with a no-reservations, no-snobbishness, come-as-you-are attitude. A heavy list of house cocktails are grounded in standards and backed up with eight draught beers, from Rainier to Guinness. An affordable, thoughtful wine list of 40 local and European upstarts are almost all poured both by the glass and the half-carafe, as well as a few styles of local reds on tap.

The stand-alone 1946 building where Rae’s was birthed is all one room inside, anchored by the bar in the back and cozy booth and banquette seating throughout. Although Rae’s is self-described as a neighborhood bar first, the food served is wholesome and comfortable. ‘Blue Collar Continental’ is what they call it, all house made, recognizable and robust, Northwestern Americana mixed with a bit of working-class Riviera, served up 7 days a week from early to late, 360 days a year.

Established just a year ago, Rae’s Lakeview Lounge in Portland’s northwest industrial district has quickly proven itself as one of the city’s can’t-miss restaurant destinations. Oregonian readers voted it “Best Brunch in Portland” in March. Its cheerful, schoolbus-yellow exterior with dog-friendly patio underlines its excellent service and the friendliest bartenders in town.

One of their most popular offerings – beside the five-dollar bottomless brunch mimosas – is the phenomenally successful happy hour menu offered every day from 2 to 6 p.m. From $2 tomato soup to $3 biscuits and gravy made fresh every day by chef Jeffrey Perce, everyone will find something to take the edge of their afternoon appetites. The KINK.fm staff favorite, hands down, is the deliciously moist bread pudding topped by a thin layer of semisweet chocolate… we can’t get enough!

Rae’s Lakeview Lounge has become the perfect hidden gem. Bring your out-of-town friends for a treat at one of Portland’s best-kept secrets and have a Blackberry Cosmo while you wait. Don’t miss it!
