Smith Rock… one of the 7 wonders of Oregon. An amazing experience to see, explore, and take in this beautiful chunk of nature. It’s just under a 3 hour drive from Portland. There’s plenty of hikes all over the grounds at Smith Rock for all different levels. We took a 5 mile loop around the park. Choose wisely especially with young children as there are some seriously steep hikes and sheers falls.
Head south to Bend and then take a sharp right heading West to get to Tumalo Falls. At this time of year, there’s a gate blocking a 2.5 mile gravel road that most time of the year you can drive all the way up to the falls. This is one of those places you can drive in, get out for a look at Tumalo Falls and head back. But if you’re like me, you need to get out hiking. There’s a 6.5 mile loop with more waterfalls of all shapes and sizes that we had originally planned on hiking. BUT we had to hike the gravel road in so we didn’t complete the loop. We hiked in to Double Falls, approx. a mile past Tumalo Falls and had lunch.
