Take a walk in the woods

I spent last week on vacation with my family. As much as I love Portland, getting away from everything is the key to my well-being. As a matter of fact, it’s important for all of us to get out into nature on a regular basis. Studies have shown that spending time in a forest can reduce psychological stress and depressive symptoms while improving sleep. Just smelling trees has health benefits because of chemicals released by trees have been linked to improved immune defense and a reduction in anxiety. So next time you’re feeling stressed out, if you can’t get away to go camping in the woods, try going for a walk through one of Portland’s tree-filled parks.
